My cat's leg has to be amputated because its causing him pain any other solutions?

I heard you can purchase leg splints or boots? I don't want him to have three legs! He caught his leg on some wire but we have moved to a better area now so there's no wire.He needs to have it amputated because it swells up and hurts him, this is because it has gone all floppy and he has to literally walk on his ankle (he snapped his tendons) Thankyou. Don't worry he is not in serious pain just discomfort. He is taking pain releif given by Bridge Vets.
