If your tendon snaps in half, can it stick out of your skin?

I want to know if this is possible. If a tendon in your ankle snaps in half, could it stick out of your skin? Somebody told me that this happened to them and I find it questionable for a tendon to stick out of your skin. Any help?? Thnx (;
