What, exactly, is this ankle pain?

I hit my ankle recently, on the inside part of my left foot, towards the back (directly anterior to where your achilles tendon would be, but towards the center of my body). I hit it on the corner of my desk. I still have almost perfect mobility laterally, but when I try and walk up and down stairs, I get a sharp pain. It is painful to touch as well.
